kill your television

two more weeks of shrill political ads when i'm trying to watch the simpsons, jeopardy and the news... thank god for dvds, books and the internet, simple substitutes for the sick lies, distortions, attacks and all-around pandering that goes on 5 times per commercial break. jeesh...

Now I can't remember if I posted about the local commercial or not. About the Congressman who gained some weight while he's been in office. His opponant put his picture from when he was originally elected in front of the capital and said something like "Mike Phillps said government wouldn't change him." and then they morphed the photo into him now and he's considerably heavier and they said something like "he lied."
Can you believe that shit?

And then to hear Rush Limbaugh mock MJ Fox whether you agree or disagree with stem cell research, making fun of a man (who is considered by many to be America's sweetheart) who is afflicted by a terrible illness is just wrong. of course I don't know why that surprises me because it's well known what an asshole rush is. I also heard that there is video of him from the studio actually mimicing the shaking.

oh the joys of politics. i wish people were just nice.

yeah, it's getting pretty ugly. i heard about both those things, and saw rush talking about mjf last night and my jaw dropped--the nerve!

oregon does mail-in ballots and i already have mine (and the books with the ballot issue descriptions). i plan on sending it in soon so i can further ignore the ads.

speaking of, last night i caught an interesting snippet: this is the most expensive mid-term election in history. said something like $69 for every vote in the senate races and $35 for the reps. makes you wonder who's paying a hundred dollars for each of our votes. it's hard for me to fathom because my vote is free, and i haven't directly donated to any candidate or cause... clearly, ultimately, the money came out of my pocket, but the return on the investment seems mighty weak.

tangental, but something worth pondering nonetheless.
